Siobhan & Niamh

SIOBHANHi Nikki,

As you know I went to be induced at Frimley hospital on Thursday 23rd, the pessiary worked too well & the contractions were too close together & intense, little one however, was chilled out throughout the process! So they took it out Thursday evening & decided to begin the gel part of the induction on Friday morning.
Friday again after the gel, the contractions were intense but not un-manageable but they faded in the afternoon and felt worse by the midwives informing me I had made no progress, this then sent me into a bad place with tears & a tiny tantrum! Whoops.

I spent the next few hours though contemplating my next step & refused the 2nd round of gel to review it all on Saturday morning. Then at about 7:30pm Friday night I sat up in the hospital bed & went straight for the bathroom (where you recommended Nikki!) dragging my husband along.

We locked ourselves in, turned the lights out, put some music on & filled the bath right up as I began to feel strong contractions, different from before starting up…the environment was perfect. Focusing on the ribbon breath between contractions & during them making a vowel sound on my out breath within the space of 2 hours I had dilated 3cms.

I then got moved to the labour ward at 11:30pm at 7cms dilated & kept refusing the gas & air as it dried my mouth out too much! The midwife respected my “active birth” labour positions & tried helping me into a few of them. After an hour I was fully dilated & ready to push and didn’t I push!! I felt quite detached from everything around me at this point & was focusing on my body & baby it’s quite a space to be in.

Unfortunately, after 2 hours of pushing i was beginning to tire drastically & began shaking with no sign of baby. My contractions slowed & were weakening so the midwife got me checked by a Doctor who informed me baby was facing back to back & turned to the side slightly…..it was a forceps delivery. At this point I knew my body was tiring & I wanted my baby to be safe, so into theatre I went and after everything drug free, I had to have a spinal tap to assist the delivery.

30 minutes & after two more pushes with the aid of the forceps, later…..On Saturday 25th my beautiful baby girl Niamh Elizabeth, weighing 7lb 8oz was placed on my chest & looking up at me.

Billy and I are so smitten & happy to be home-we were released Tuesday evening. We just wanted to thank you for all the advice & information you have given, to not only me during the classes but to Billy during the workshop you did with us at our home. It really did all help before, during and after the labour.
Thank you for everything Nikki I can’t recommend you & your techniques enough 🙂 & I’m looking forward to the baby massage classes in September!

Siobhan, Billy & Niamh xx

Emma & Alexander

emmas babyHi Nikki,
Just a quick note to let you know that Alexander George was born at 08:30 on Sunday 12th July (1 week overdue, just like his big sister), weighing a very healthy 9lb 4oz.

I was incredibly lucky to have a labour very similar to my first but in half the time.

I used the golden ribbon breath throughout and spent the majority of the time on my hands and knees rotating and rocking my pelvis as we do in class. I got to 9cm using just the TENS machine, partly because the midwives didn’t realise how far gone I was. Apparently I kept smiling in between contractions.

Luckily there was just enough time to fill the birthing pool for Alex to arrive with the help of some gas & air. We waited for the umbilical cord to stop pulsating before cutting it and then waited for the placenta to pop out by itself. A very positive experience for everyone involved.

I will miss your classes so much, always looked forward to some me time on Monday evenings.

Good luck to all the other mummies.

Attached is s photo of Alex meeting his big sister for the first time.

Sarah & Aspen

sarahsbabyYou probably guessed that my little one had arrived… it’s been a whirlwind of happiness & tiredness where time seems to vanish!

Aspen Arthur was born on the 26th April, weighing in @ 8lb 10oz…  He was a speedy arrival, had my first contraction during dinner at 6:30pm, and sped off to hospital shortly after, he arrived at 8:26pm… I delivered with gas & air and was being monitored through out, although i was wired up I was lucky enough to be able to be on the floor in a sort of sumo wrestling position with my partner… kneeling up leaning on him… It happened so quickly that unfortunately my mind went blank with anything I had learned but my body seemed to do it all naturally…

Since having him I’ve been determined not to suffer with insomnia again so I have been using the breathing techniques to help me to get to sleep, along with a lavender bath and lavender drops on my pillow it has really helped…
Hoping to make it along to a baby massage course soon!
Thank you for your fountain of knowledge! I really enjoyed the yoga, really helped me through a trickier/different pregnancy… x x

Kate & Evelyn May

kates babyHi Nikki, Just a quick note to say thank you for the advice & support you provided throughout my pregnancy. I really looked forward to the weekly yoga class, it was lovely to have something that was just for me & baby. I felt so relaxed, happy & confident after each class.

Unfortunately, no matter how much bouncing, belly dancing, squatting & funny walking I did, nothing was going to move our baby so I decided to have an elective cesarean at 41 weeks (after having a previous emergency cesarean with my first baby). I was quite disappointed but had an amazing team at the royal surrey caring for me so in the end, had a positive birth experience.

I used my breathing techniques learnt in class throughout which I felt really help keep me calm & relaxed! The midwife even commented that she’d never seen someone so calm before!

Evelyn May was born on 9th June at 9:38, weighing in at a whopping 9lbs 8oz…. Explains the big bump!

She is absolutely gorgeous & settling in nicely.

Thanks again Nikki. X
